I'm Dreaming of a thrifted Christmas....

Dress thrifted (brand unknown!)

Payless shoes
Stella and Dot Necklaces; After Midnight and Starry Night

Some people LOVE thrifting....me not so much. But after reading so many fashion blogs each week I got inspired. My sis-in-law and I were on a shopping binge in SF and we happened upon a fabulous thrift shop! I turned up my nose at first, until I saw this dress and couldn't resist it. After all it was $25.00! Paired with my borrowed Stella and Dot necklaces (my bff is a stylist for them!) and my Payless(yes can you believe it?) shoes. I looked like a million bucks, for only $55.00!!!

Lesson:  Don't be afraid of thrifting...remember, one fashionista's trash is a reccionista's treasure!

I hope your holiday's were happy!

ROSEy's Rags.... A Christmas Carol

Paul Sinclair Jacket  2010 line, Honey and Hive boots (similar), Michael byMichael Kors bag.

For the past several years my kids and I head downtown during the holidays to go see ACT's: A Christmas Carol,  here in San Francisco.  We are so proud of our friend Alex who has gone from playing a dancing fig to this year playing Little Fan (Scrooge's sister in the Christmas past scene).

Before the show, we took in the holiday windows and decorations in Union Square.  It also gave me a chance to wear this fabulous Paul Sinclaire coat all day!  (usually I just put it on for a special night out!).  I love this jacket with it's cascading ruffles!  My girlfriend and  I picked up matching one's last year (one right off the manikin) at Saks.  Thanks Leesa, I'm still loving my coat!

Stage Mom....

I am so proud of my daughter she made her stage debut as the candyman in Willy Wonka Jr. put on by Linda's Musical Theater Group.  As for me?  I got to try my hand styling the girls back stage.  What fun!  Doing hair and make up for a gaggle of girls.  Lucky for me on "taping" night we had a professional on hand to help.  I was lucky enough to work side by side with Dante of Sam Hill Salon (here in SF).  And thank goodness for Dante!  He did an AMAZING job, made sure everyone's hair was  picture perfect, and taught me a thing or two. Did you know they sell hair donuts to use for doing my fav sock bun?! When we were through we had a few minutes until show time, so he created fabulous waves for me!!!  Who knew being a stage mom would be so fun!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Sara Oliver handbag

I LOVE my new Sara Oliver Handbag! It is a hand knit bag designed and made here in the bay area.  I love the color and style of this bag.  But, what I love best about this bag is the story behind it.  Sarah Oliver's business was growing and she needed more knitters.  She put together a group of ladies and one man from a retirement community in Mill Valley.  Her knitters average age is 88, and she has  lovingly named the group the  "Purlettes".  They knit all of her bags!  I love a business with a social conscience.  Not to mention, I can see myself as a "Purlette" one day, knitting (and crocheting) away...with purpose!

Thanks to my hubby (and my Sophie)  for this special birthday gift!

Stack it up!

Rings by Alberian and Aulde. (at gallery of jewels sf)

Would I LOVE these rings? YES!!! but at $3500.00 for the set it is a bit out of my budget.  If it's in yours GO FOR IT!  Otherwise pick up one of these "look alike" styles.   I just might!

PS...Do you love my gel mani?  It stays shiny like that for 2 weeks plus!!! Have you tried it? If not you should. But that's for another post.

Bun Fun!

Some days I don't feel like getting out of bed let alone dealing with my hair.  And if you know me, you know I really don't wash my hair that often. By day 3 or 4 there is nothing else to do but look for creative ways to put it up.  This is one of my favorites.  The sock bun!  Yes there is a sock hiding under my bun.

Watch my first ever vlog to see how it's done!

TGIBF! (Thank G-d It's Black Friday)

Gap puffy jacket, Old Navy rockstar jeans, Hive and Honey (similar)boots.

Even though you all know I love a good sale more the chocolate! I must admit I never partake in the Black Friday madness. I always spend the Friday after Thanksgiving, hanging with my family.  Usually this entails going out for dim sum and a walk, and enjoying my parents, siblings and kids.  But as we all know these sales are not all "one day only".  I mean now we even have Cyber Monday (really?!!)

Anyway, as my son and I picked up pies( I did bake a pumpkin pie, but I can never get the apple one right!)  on the day before Thanksgiving, we happened by the Gap and popped in to "kill" time.  Lucky for me, as I scored this puffy jacket for 60% off ($59.00)!!!  The reviews on-line are not great, but I LOVE it. It is the perfect puffer for San Francisco winter.  Thin and not bulky.  It might not keep you warm in Minnesota though!

Loft dress (as seen in allure) front.

Loft dress back
Loft top
My sister-in-law ( a bargain hunter extraordinaire), found these great buys at her local loft store, where they were having a take an extra 50% off sale (on Tuesday?!).  The dress (as seen in Allure ) was scored for $2.40, originally priced at $79.50.  And the cute animal print top (I've been coveting this myself!)  was $29.75 originally priced at $59.50!

You can still get all of these items on line. But for those prices you'll have to hit the stores!

Keep up your bargain hunting as I am sure you too can find many treasures without the Black Friday madness!

Let me know if you found any "Black Friday"  bargains!

ROSEY's Rags....Missoni for Target and Bookfair!

When I picked up this dress on my Missoni for Target misson, I knew exactly when I'd wear it!

You may have noticed I was absent from posting last week. That is because like most of us Moms, I am very involved at my children's school. Last week was my big event that I co-chair with one of my bff's. Although it was crazy and exhausting, that doesn't mean I'd sacrifice fashion. Vola! The perfect day for my brignt Missioni for Target sweater dress (notice how its bright colors look fab with the room!)

Versace is coming, Versace is coming!

Not sure if this will be a repeat perfomance of Missoni for Target, but I for one plan to be down town to H&M early on Saturday November 19th, to get some of these must have, fun looks from Donetella!   I LOVE Versace's over the top styling and now I am excited to have some in my closet in a way I can afford.

I do have one request though for Donetella, please stop with the face "augmentation"!  Can't we just grow old somewhat gracefully? (she looks a bit scary to me!!)

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the up coming line.

ROSEY's Rags....Moms Unite!

On Jamie:  Mossimo skinny jeans, H&M Tee,  S-Twelve(Ambiance sf cardigan, Boots; Ciao Bella, Headband; belt (vintage Etcetera). On Sandy: sweater oonagh; Leather Jacket; 3.1 Phillip Lim; Suede Boots; Sam Edelman;Jewelry; Stella and Dot

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Work out clothes are meant for the gym!!! Okay, so we are all time crunched. I will admit I sport mine also for a quick run to Trader Joes and maybe to Target.  But there is a limit!   Really guys, we have thrown away our "mom jeans" and replaced them with a new "mom uniform".  Lets all hold hands and make a vow to get out of our Lululemon and Athleta looks by at least pick up time (and if you can't, well that's what drive through is for)!  You don't have to be "over the top" gorgeous.  A simple pair of jeans and a cute sweater or jacket over a tee shirt, with some cute accessories or jewelry, is all you need to look stylish and fresh!

Can you keep a secret? In the picture above I haven't washed my hair in 3 (maybe 4 days).  Pulled back in my ponytail and cute headband.....you would never know!  My look was super quick and easy with no blow out required.  And check out my Smoke and Mirrors post for make up tricks to look refreshed without all the fuss.

Ladies, I believe in you!   Repeat after me, " I will get out of my work out clothes by 2pm"!

I have one word for you ladies, SPANX!

It is beyond belief that SPANX could get any better, but they have!  The have come out with the legging to end all leggings and it's called the "Look at Me" legging.  Say good bye to baggy knees, and saggy crotches and give these new cotton leggings by Spanx a try.  This makes me extra happy since most days I find my self peeling on my regular leggings over my SPANX.  That is no easy task!  Right now they only come in black...but watch out, I'm sure other colors are not too far behind.

IF you are reading this and asking what are SPANX? Then you must live on another planet.  Do you think that Kim Kardashian gets those seamless curves without a little help?  Of course not!  Under ever great dressed Hollywood Starlet you will find a pair of SPANX.  They are a must have in every woman's wardrobe.  A wardrobes foundation if you will.  SPANX are the revolutionary invention of Sara Blakely (if you have not read her story click on her name to be inspired)!  They are the go to shaping and slimming undergarments of women every where.  If you do not own a pair you should (and maybe not just one).  And if you don't want to pay the price for a great looking derriere.  Then check out their lower priced line ASSETS

ROSEY's Rags....Halloween Fun

What does every fashionista enjoy most (besides shopping that is)? Playing dress up! Although, I try to play dress up everyday while styling myself, Halloween takes it to a whole new level! I hope you all had fun playing dress up too.

It was so fun to channel my inner "Jersey Girl" this Halloween.  Fist Pump to Snooki!

ROSEy's Rags (more seasonless style)

Dress Old Navy(similar); Shoes Steve Madden;
Bag Coach(similar)Necklace Stella and Dot(now on sale!!!!)

Last week we had a bit of indian summer here in San Francisco, with the cool mornings and the hot afternoons, it was time to whip out the summer dresses.  But for me,  a "Jersey Girl", it is difficult to dress like summer in October!  What's a girl to do?  Well, I'll tell you. I pulled out my old Fave summer Maxi from Old Navy and instead of pairing it with my flip flops, and straw bag for a boho look,  I paired it with my ballet flats, cardigan, fave coach bag (remember Oprah's favorite things? Mine too!), a Statement Neclace and Voila! My maxi was born again.

Coach bag (remember Oprah's favorite things?) Steve Madden Shoes.

Happy 65th Brithday to My Stlyle Icon!

I read many fashion blogs each week(each day really), and I notice whenever fashionista's are interviewed, they are usually asked who their style icons is. They all typically have the same answers.

Although, there is no arguing that Bridget Bardot, Jacki O and Marilyn Monroe have paved the way for many a woman's personal style. I don't think they hold a candle to my Mom! She certainly did not have their budget, or designers dressing her and molding her image, but she did have a style all her own.

Armed with piles of magazines and catalogs giving her endless ideas my Mom had a style to envy and copy. And although she may not have been adored and followed by millions. She raised two fabulously stylish daughters(if i do say so myself).

So where do I get my personal style? Isn't it obvious? (and look at Dad! Not to shabby either).

Happy Birthday Mom. You still are and will always be ahead of your time. I love you.

Who is your style icon?  Let me know.

ROSEy's Rags...(Seasonless Style)

I have noticed that many fashion blogs feature their authors sporting fabulous looks.  Most of my current Faves have their outfits posted almost DAILY. WOW!  While I am not going to go that route, I am going to post some of things I am wearing out and about town.  I hope to post my new series  ROSEy's Rags weekly, in addition to my regular posts.   It will feature yours truly in real outfits from my own closet.

I posted about this Jcrew dress way back in the summer when I got it at a great sale price!!! Yay!  I wanted to show you all how great it is transitioning into a San Francisco fall piece.  Even though it is lightweight cotton, when paired with leather boots and a biker jacket,  it transitions easily to cooler fall days.

I bet you all have dresses hiding in your closet that you can wear a bit longer.  So before you move you closet over to fall/winter, take the ROSEystyle challenge and keep some of your spring/summer favorites going just a little bit longer.

Plum Crazy!

My love affair with purple started with Helitrope. It was my favorite color in the pack of crayola (48 count box I think). I could have just said purple, but that would have been too easy. And saying heliotrope really threw people for a loop(fun!).

At 13 I was allowed to redecorate(with my Bat Mitzvah money of course) and I promptly turned my childhood bedroom on Pleasant Drive(yes that really is the name of the street I grew up on!) into my own purple paradise. My mom not only allowed me to paint the walls a shade of lovey lavender (almost heliotrope), but also signed off on a fab purple carpet.

Although, I don't think I'll be doing any redecorating, I am excited to get some of my old fave color into my my wardrobe this Fall.

Let me know what favorite color you will add to your wardrobe this season!

MIssoni Accomplished!

The fashion and business world is still abuzz about the success (or failure), of Missioni for Target.  Even the NYT has chimed in this week (WOW)!

Out in the fashion blogosphere many have been asking the big question "Was it worth it?"  My answer is YES! Just look at that smile on my budding fashionista!

And I didn't do so badly either(check back for pics of me)!  IF you missed yours and are still pining for it, you can get almost everything on EbayBut you will have to pay steep markups starting at 25%!!

Happy Shopping.

Red hot too!

It is still raining here in San Francisco!!

I know we are all tempted to go dark on these dreary days but I took this car I parked next to at Trader Joe's as sign to step into the the light!

Since I can't get this candy apple red punch buggy ( not practical for carpooling).  I will stick with a fun pair of red shoes!!! I am  LOVEing the red rain booties so much I might have to trade in my black ones!!!

Red Hot!!!

As the rain begins....(really San Francisco, rain in October?!!!)  I have made a promise to myself to add some color and pizzaz to the sea of black and grey that my closet transforms into each fall and winter.  This season it should be easy with so many rich colors and fun animal prints to choose from.

ROSEYstyle Recommends:
I've always LOVED red! So let's start with these "red hot" bags....Check back soon for some more ways to add color to your Fall.
